England Head Coach: Trent Alexander-Arnold Has Been Very Unlucky

Gareth Southgate, the England head coach, has explained why he has not called up Trent Alexander-Arnold, a Liverpool defender, for upcoming national team matches.

“There are areas where we have incredible competition for a place in the squad. Trent has been very unlucky,” said Southgate to Sky Sports.

“I don’t think he’s played at the level he’s shown in the last couple of years, but I believe he’s very close to it. He’s been taking steps in the right direction the last few weeks,” he continued.

“We just think Rhys James and Kieran Trippier have had exceptional seasons with their clubs, Walker is in great form with Man City. We have other players in the league who play well in that position – Cash at Villa and Ayling at Leeds.”

“Trent, of course, is a super talent. I’m sure he will play a big role for England in the future,” he added.
