Newly appointed Newcastle United director Amanda Staveley has commented on the club’s ambitions following a takeover by Saudi Consortium. Recently, Newcastle lost 4-1 to Manchester United (football news), as we predicted, what with Old Trafford’s newest of football transfers. Still, after Saudi’s takeover, Staveley, the director, believes Newcastle should be leading in Premier League.
A Saudi-led consortium completed its takeover of Premier League club Newcastle United on Thursday. They bought into Newcastle despite Amnesty International’s warnings that the deal represented “sports-washing” of the Gulf kingdom’s human rights record.
On the hand over, the English top-flight said it had settled the legal disputes that had initially stalled Saudi’s takeover. Plus, Newcastle have declared that they received “legally binding assurances” that the Saudi Arabian government would not control the club.
Director Believes Newcastle Should Be Leading in Premier League
“The Premier League, Newcastle United Football Club and St James Holdings Limited have today settled the dispute over the takeover of the club by the consortium of PIF, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media,” the Premier League said in a statement.
“Newcastle United deserves to be top of the Premier League,” Newcastle United director Amanda Staveley claimed talking to Sky Sports. “We want to get there. It will take time but we will get there.
“We are proud to be part of the Premier League,” the new director went on to say. “It’s an incredibly competitive league, which we love.
“Premier League football is the best in the world, and Newcastle is the best team in the world.”
“We want to see it get those trophies, obviously. At the top of the league, in Europe, but to get those we need patience, investment and time. We want everybody to work with us to build the club towards what it needs to be,” per Staveley.
