Defending DFB Pokal Champions Borussia Dortmund Win Yet Again

Last night saw, among related football news, defending DFB Pokal champions Borussia Dortmund win yet again in the cup competition.

Borussia Dortmund took on FC Ingolstadt at Signal Iduna Park in the second German cup round. The reigning champions were clear favorites in the clash, and for good reason – they triumphed 2-0 over their guests, Ingolstadt.

At the same time, it was probably the Dortmund’s overconfidence in winning that cost them a bit in the game. Because they were convinced of their superiority regardless of the level of play, the first half ended without a goal.

Despite this inactivity, Marco Rose’s Dortmund squad left the pitch at the half time break accompanied by the whistling fans.

The first half hour of the second half was pretty much the same with Borussia only hitting the crossbar twice. The ball just wouldn’t go into the net after any of the shots.

But the game changed when Thorgan Hazard entered the pitch in order to replace Thomas Meunier in the 71st minute.

And Hazard was definitely the one missing from the front line tonight because he scored just one minute after playing.

And it was Hazard again who also doubled the lead, 9 minutes after that, to make it 2-0 for Dortmund.

The Belgian’s two goals and Julian Brandt’s two assists allowed Dortmund to progress into the German Cup round of 16.
