Juventus and Italian international defender, as well as captain, Giorgio Chiellini has commented on his Italy teammate Jorginho’s recent performances. In praise of the Chelsea midfielder, said Chiellini – ‘I hope Jorginho wins the Ballon d’Or’.
UEFA voted Jorginho to become the winner of the award of the 2020-21 Men’s Player of the Year (football news).
On top of that, the 29-year-old has managed to win both Champions League and Euro-2020 in the same season (2020-21).
Jorginho first helped his club Chelsea win the Champions League, after they defeated Manchester City in the 2020-21 campaign final. He then went on to win the Euros title with Italy, in the past summer for international play.
Not only all this, Jorginho also became only the tenth player to achieve the milestone of winning both competitions together.
Chiellini: I Hope Jorginho Wins the Ballon d’Or
And now, his captain in the national team of Italy, Giorgio Chiellini, has spoken out in immense praise of him. Indeed, Chiellini expects the midfielder to go on to win many awards.
“I hope Jorginho wins the Ballon d’Or because he is a friend of mine and I’ll feel that award is as much mine as an Italian,” the Italian told the press ahead of the Champions League clash against Chelsea at the Allianz Stadium, Marca reports.
“We won a lot of games because of him,” Chiellini explained in further praise. “I’ve always considered Jorginho to be a great player after his first two training session we had together, but he has evolved under [Roberto] Mancini.”
