Gabriel Jesus’s late winner saw Manchester City come from behind to beat Paris Saint-Germain at Etihad Stadium 2-1 on Wednesday.

This victory has sealed the top spot in Group A for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Mauricio Pochettino needed his team to avoid defeat if they were to stand a chance of winning the whole group. But ultimately, the hosts’ dominance came through and PSG did lose.

Guardiola must have been angry over the amount of chances City spurned in the first half, though.

This is particularly true for when Kylian Mbappe put PSG in front four minutes into the second half (at 50’).

PSG had improved considerably as an attacking threat, but City upped the intensity again and deservedly levelled through Raheem Sterling.

And then, finally, substitute Gabriel Jesus completed an impressive victory.

Manchester City appeared in control almost from the outset, first going close after six minutes. Presnel Kimpembe had to deflect Rodri’s glancing header off the line.

Keylor Navas denied Riyad Mahrez at full-stretch shortly after Ilkay Gundogan hit the post from the centre of the box.

Meanwhile, PSG were creating precious little chances at the other end.

But the Parisians did take full advantage of a rare chance early in the second half, when Mbappe scored.

He drilled through Ederson’s legs after Lionel Messi’s cross at the end of a flowing move. And this play kindly fell and ended at the back post.

City’s equaliser 13 minutes later was similarly well-worked, though, when Rodri picked out Kyle Walker at the far post.

Walker’s pass across the face of goal received assistance from Jesus and all this led to Sterling prodding it home.

Jesus then got the winner 14 minutes from time. He guided in a composed finished after Bernardo Silva delicately teed him up.
