Champions League Football News – Juventus Easily Knocked out Malmo

Among other of last night’s final group stage Champions League football news, Juventus easily knocked out Malmo from the competition. Watch the highlights and key moments of this football match in Turin yesterday right here.

Juventus progressed to the Champions League knockout stages as group winners after their comfortable 1-0 victory over Malmo on Wednesday.

This marginal yet convincing victory, coupled with Chelsea’s draw at Zenit St Petersburg, curiously made Juventus Group H’s surprise leaders.

Juventus had already received assurance of their place in the knockout stages of the European tournament from their Group H. As a result, this Serie A side played last night with a much-changed line-up.

And still, despite a somewhat inexperienced starting squad, the Turin club, hosting Malmo at home, raced into an 18th-minute lead.

Moise Kean headed his first Champions League goal from an inch-perfect Federico Bernardeschi cross and Malmo FF went down 1-0. In fact, the guests never recovered from losing this initial lead throughout the match.

Actually, with Malmo guaranteed to finish bottom of the group, the Swedes had little incentive to push for a leveller.

So, Juve sealed and maintained their winner without ever being seriously troubled.

Still, the Italian side’s fifth win from six group games would have been in vain if, elsewhere in Group H, Chelsea had won their final group stage match.

However, though England’s Chelsea led 3-2 to Russia’s Zenit St Petersburg in stoppage time, there came a last-gasp equaliser. Zenit thus levelled the final score 3-3 and Juve consequently finished two points clear at the top of the group.
