Manchester United striker Edison Cavani is going to remain in England during the international break, the club’s press office reports. Because of the football news of Premier League not releasing CONMEBOL players, Cavani will miss the international break with Uruguay.
Previous reports said Premier League clubs decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries in September.
The Uruguayan had to withdraw from the Uruguay national team’s squad due to the United Kingdom imposing stringent COVID-19 restrictions.
Uruguay, along with many of its South American neighbors, is a country currently on the United Kingdom’s ‘red list’.
Travelling to a red-list nation means that these players would have to quarantine for 10 full days upon their return.
And because Cavani is the only England-based Uruguayan player having to travel for international duty, he is not going anywhere.
Cavani Will Miss the International Break with Uruguay
Manchester United, the club who have retained him after a brilliant loan spell last season, have confirmed Edinson Cavani’s situation.
The Red Devils have announced that Cavani to miss all the Uruguay’s games for World Cup in this international break.
More specifically, on Monday, Manchester United confirmed that Edinson Cavani will miss Uruguay’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Uruguay has qualifying matches against Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.
But because his call-up had to see withdrawal by the Uruguayan Football Association, Cavani has seen exclusion by his own country for these international sojourns.
