Manchester United interim coach Michael Carrick has talked to the press after the 0-2 victory against Villarreal (football news). And he has offered up this victory, in his first match as United’s caretaker manager, as a tribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. So, Carrick dedicated Manchester United’s win over Villareal to Solskjaer, who left the club earlier this week (football transfers).

Manchester United won a crucial Champions League group stage match, away against Villareal, who have, of late, always bested them.

And now, because they hold 10 points after 5 fixtures, the Red Devils are at the top of Group F. In other words, United have secured a place in the Champions League round of 16 from their group of four.

Heart-warmingly, Manchester United’s caretaker manager Michael Carrick has pledged this important Champions League victory over to his idol and predecessor. He dedicates the match last night (Tuesday) to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who had to resign from the club on Sunday.

“It’s not been an easy couple of days for everyone at the club,” Carrick stated, as per Daily Mail. “I can enjoy it so much but still, that result feels like it’s for Ole, I can’t get away from that.

“It’s not an important result for me, it’s for the club and the players. Tonight is not about me by any stretch.

“It’s been an emotional few days. The first person I spoke to when it all happened and Ed (Woodward) asked me to take the role was Ole. I really wanted to see what he thought about it.

“I have a responsibility to be here and manage the team and I take great pride in that.

“We had a job to do without dwelling on it, things needed to be taken care of, and thankfully it all went to plan in the end.”
