Cologne struck twice in three minutes to edge past Hertha Berlin 3-1 on Sunday for their third straight league win. So, in last night’s Bundesliga football news, Hertha Berlin lost 1-3 at home to Cologne, who’re now in contention for European competition next season, which means, in other words, that they may get to finish in the top-four on the Bundesliga table and qualify for the 2022-23 Champions League by UEFA.

Goals from Anthony Modeste and former Hertha player Ondrej Duda made sure the guests moved up to sixth place. Cologne are now at 28 points, three behind third-placed Hoffenheim.

At 0-0 Hertha had the best chance of the game in the 29th minute. However, then, keeper Marvin Schwaebe denied Myziane Maolida with a superb save.

A minute later, though, Cologne scored with their top striker Modeste powering in a header from a central position. And not only was this goal the opener for the match, it was also Modeste’s 12th goal of the campaign.

In the 32nd minute, Cologne went 2-0 up when Duda aimed a low drive from the edge of the box.

Then, Vladimir Darida’s 58th minute free kick gave hosts Hertha hope of equalizing. But eventually, the home team lacked precision with their finish as they gradually ran out of steam.

Jan Thielmann then decided the game on the counter-attack, rounding keeper Alexander Schwolow for Cologne’s third goal in stoppage time.
