Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will stand trial for blackmailing midfielder Mathieu Valbuena.
The investigation team suspects Benzema acted as an intermediary in 2015. He incited Valbuena to pay blackmailers not to post an intimate video of Mathieu.
So, Benzema will stand trial for blackmailing Valbuena, now playing for Olympiacos, with an intimate video.
The trial will take place in Versailles from October 20 to 22, writes L’Equipe.
If proven guilty, Benzema could face up to five years in prison and a €75,000 fine.
The blackmail situation kept both players out of the French national team for Euro 2016.
Benzema missed the victorious 2018 World Cup due to not being called up to the national team after that.
This is not the only time Benzema may have shown hostility toward fellow footballers. He was once caught trash talking him own teammate.
