Lionel Messi played his 767th match for Barcelona yesterday and matched Xavi’s record for the most games played for the club.
And Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman has praised team the Argentine striker for his double and assist in yesterday’s 4-1 La Liga 27th round game against Huesca.
“I think Messi showed that he is the best. The first goal was unbelievable. He deserves the important role in this team that he gets,” the coach told Marca.
“You can’t say more than that. Messi has shown this level for many years, he has shown it in many matches. He is the most important man in Barca’s history. It’s lucky he’s still with us.”
The 33-year-old has played 25 games in La Liga this season, scoring 21 goals and providing seven assists.
