Lionel Messi led Barcelona to a 6-1 thrashing of Sociedad.
He made history, taking the Catalan giants to within four points of league leaders Atletico Madrid.
Still, despite Sunday’s thrashing, Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman predicted a tight race for the LaLiga crown.
Koeman addressed the media following Barcelona’s big win over Real Sociedad, and as Barca loom large with 10 matches remaining.
Koeman told reporters: “I think the win sends an important message – but mostly to ourselves. It shows the team is comfortable and confident in its own abilities.
“Physically we’re in a strong place as well and we’ve improved a lot but it doesn’t mean today’s result and performance will be replicated in future games.
“There’s still a lot of games left to play in LaLiga but we are still behind Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have also improved.
“They are much stronger as well. It’s going to be a tough fight until the last game of the season. Therefore, we have to keep going game by game.”
