Gian Piero Gasperini, the Atalanta head coach, has shared his expectations for the game against Real Madrid in the Champions League 1/8 finals (0-1 first leg).
“The first half will give us an idea of how the balance of the match will play out. We need to understand how we can hold off Real and what we can offer. We are ambitious, but we face a serious opponent,” Gasperini said to Sky Sport Italia.
“We have several plans and the goal is to stay in the game as long as possible. For sure, we will not change.”
He added: “Penalty in the first match? We need to think about [the upcoming] game. Concentrate only on it, because it will be even more difficult away. We want to compete with Real, so thinking about this game is very important.”
“This year we have matches without spectators. It’s a pity Atalanta fans can’t travel around Europe. It would be a real festival in Madrid,” he said.
