Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has checked into the Indian squad hotel for the T20 World Cup in Oman and the UAE, which could be a sign of things to come. While he was a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore roster, his team was eliminated from the cash-rich league after a defeat in the Eliminator, and he should have flown back home if he had not been a part of the event.

Chahal’s admittance into Team India’s official hotel for the T20 World Cup, on the other hand, suggests that he could be named to the squad, with modifications to be announced by October 15. This may be a huge event if verified, as Chahal was initially snubbed for a spot in the team, but his outstanding performance in the UAE leg of the IPL may have compelled management to take note and reconsider their choice.

Notably, in the UAE leg of the competition, the wrist-spinner took 14 wickets from 8 matches at an economy of 6.13, averaging 13.14 with a strike rate of 12.8. The numbers are the best in the Middle East for a spinner in IPL 2021. With the World Cup scheduled to take place on comparable types of surfaces, the selectors may have been inclined to go with Yuzi.

His Instagram story sparked discussion over his inclusion in Team India for the T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, there are a number of unsolved questions surrounding Team India’s altered lineup announcement. For example, if all-rounder Hardik Pandya has not recovered sufficiently to bowl in the global event, does it make sense to have him in the squad solely as a batter? If Hardik is replaced, it appears like Shardul Thakur or Deepak Chahar are among the frontrunners to replace him on the team.

According to a different media source, Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is likely to be invited to join Team India in the UAE as a cover for Hardik. However, while Hardik adds a big-hitting alternative and enhances the lower middle order, Iyer’s batting exploits have come at the top of the order.

Meanwhile, the IPL 2021 final is nearing its conclusion, with only three teams remaining in the competition. The Chennai Super Kings have already qualified for the final; the winner of the match between the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders will join them in Dubai on October 15.

The T20 World Cup starts two days later, but India’s first game isn’t until October 24 against archrivals Pakistan.
