Gabriel has been judged completely fit for selection, according to Chief Selector Roger Harper. West Indies name the 13-man team for the second test.
Following a surprising defeat in the first Test against West Indies, the Cricket West Indies selection panel has decided to retain Darren Bravo and Shannon Gabriel as part of a 13-man team for the second Test against South Africa. The Daren Sammy Cricket Ground will host the Test match on June 18. The match is a must-win for the Caribbean, as they are currently 0-1 in the two-match series.
Meanwhile, head selector Roger Harper announced that Gabriel has been judged completely fit for selection and, as a result, has been re-added to the squad.
Roger Harper: Bravo is an excellent hitting option
“Shannon Gabriel has been pronounced totally healthy, and as the previous spearhead of the attack, he has rejoined the 13-man team. “With Bravo, we have an experienced batsman who provides us with a great batting option,” Harper said, according to a Cricket West Indies statement.
“The squad must now perform at the level we know we are capable of. We didn’t bat anywhere near our capabilities in the first Betway Test, and we need to improve with the bat in this forthcoming match,” he said.
It should be noted that Nkrumah Bonner was not eligible for selection due to the concussion he sustained during the first Test match, which the hosts lost by an innings and 63 runs, and that the hosts would aim to improve in the second match.
