Several weird happenings have occurred at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium during the ongoing Test match between India and New Zealand. While the typically dependable on-field umpire Nitin Menon was spotted having a discussion with veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on many occasions, he was having an ordinary game by his own high standards, with several of his on-field rulings being reversed.

In this match, Ravichandran Ashwin was noted for briefly blocking the umpire’s view in his follow-through after delivering the ball, prompting the umpire to speak with the spinner. However, Ashwin was not stepping into the danger zone during the process, as evidenced by replays, and was perfectly within his rights to continue with the same follow-through.

Later, India’s captain, Ajinkya Rahane, had to join in on the conversation between Ashwin and Menon. While the three chatted in the middle of the 77th over, they also had a lively discussion between overs.

Meanwhile, it appears like New Zealand has the upper hand in the opening Test of the two-match series. The Kiwis are currently on 197/2 after bowling India out for 345 runs in 85.3 overs. Tom Latham and William Young, the BlackCaps’ openers, put on a 151-run opening stand to put New Zealand in command.

With only 153 runs needed for parity and the wicket beginning to deteriorate, New Zealand would like to take advantage of the situation and create a big lead, making their second innings job a lot simpler. Meanwhile, India took the field on Day 3 of the Test match despite the absence of chosen wicketkeeper Wriddiman Saha, who is suffering from a stiff neck.

KS Bharat has been keeping wickets for India in his absence. The teams will travel to Mumbai for the second Test and last match of New Zealand’s India tour, which begins on December 3.
