Dushmantha Chameera of Sri Lanka got the hosts off to a flying start by dismissing pocket dynamo Shaw with the opening ball of the match.
Prithvi Shaw’s T20I career has gotten off to a rocky start. While the kid has already seen ups and downs in his short international career, he has started his T20I journey with a golden duck. The right-handed hitter had earned his first T20I cap ahead of the T20I series opener against Sri Lanka in Colombo, but he couldn’t make the most of the opportunity, as he was dismissed in the first ball of the encounter. Shaw’s customary strategy of attacking in the first few balls to get himself going didn’t work out on Sunday.
Dushmantha Chameera of Sri Lanka got the hosts off to a flying start by removing the little dynamo Shaw in the first over. While Chameera bowled a pure snorter, Shaw, who is known for playing his strokes with little foot movement, edged that delivery and had to return to the pavilion with India’s score at 0/1 in 0.1 overs.

Varun Chakravarthy has also made his T20I debut, joining Shaw. This is also Chakravarthy’s maiden international encounter after missing out on the Playing XI in the Australia and England series following IPL 2020 due to fitness and injury concerns. Chakravarthy, on the other side, would hope that he seizes the opportunity with both hands, unlike Shaw, who struggled in his T20I debut. Chakravarthy, who is a mystery spinner, will bowl later in the evening when India takes the field.
In the meantime, Chameera is hoping that his wicket would set the tone for the rest of the series. While the hosts were 0-2 down in the three-match ODI series that preceded the T20Is, they came back to win the third ODI against India’s Shikhar Dhawan-led side and are taking that energy into this series.
