Sri Lanka Cricket has issued a crucial update regarding their squad for the T20 World Cup 2021, which begins in less than a month. They had previously declared their roster for the international championship, which will be held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates, but they have now added five additional cricketers to the list.

As a result, Pathum Nissanka, Minod Bhanuka, Ashen Bandara, Lakshan Sandakan, and Ramesh Mendis have been named to Sri Lanka’s squad for the prestigious competition. The names were announced by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board in a press release only after they were approved by Sri Lanka’s Youth and Sports Minister, Namal Rajapaksa.

In the same official release, the island nation’s cricket governing body stated that Lahiru Madushanka, who was previously named in the original roster for the T20 World Cup 2021, will no longer be travelling with the team to the Middle East due to an injury that he is still recovering from.

As a result, Sri Lanka’s roster for the event has grown to 23 players, and they will sail for Oman on October 3.

Chris Gayle leaves the IPL bio-bubble to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2021

Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings of the Indian Premier League stated on Thursday that Caribbean star Chris Gayle has decided to leave the IPL bio-bubble due to bubble fatigue. Gayle, who is competing in the T20 World Cup, stated that he wanted to stay fresh for the world tournament and hence chose to take a vacation from the bubble.

“I have been a part of the CWI bubble, CPL bubble, and IPL bubble over the last few months, and I want to psychologically recharge and rejuvenate myself,” Gayle was quoted as saying.

“I’d like to take a rest in Dubai before refocusing on assisting the West Indies in the T20 World Cup. Thank you to the Punjab Kings for allowing me to take this time off. My thoughts and prayers are always with the squad. Best wishes for the upcoming games, “He continued.

Meanwhile, with numerous India players named to the World Cup struggling in the IPL and several omitted players continuously performing well, the BCCI may consider making a few adjustments. However, no official statement has been issued by them thus yet.
