Live Cricket News: Sources have informed that Shreyas Iyer could make his Test debut against New Zealand in this game, which will be played at Green Park in Kanpur. Notably, veteran cricketers including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not play in the first Test, making room for former Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer, who has been out of action for much of 2021 and even missed the T20 World Cup.

With Rohit Sharma resting for both Tests and KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Mayank Agarwal all eligible for selection, it will be interesting to watch who India’s openers will be in the Test matches. Ajinkya Rahane is slated to captain the squad in the first Test, with Virat returning to the helm once he arrives in Mumbai for the second Test.

Meanwhile, India will be buoyed by the fact that they accomplished a 3-0 clean sweep of New Zealand in the T20I series prior to the Tests. Both countries were missing some of their preferred players, allowing them to recuperate after a long season, but the teams had a bigger picture in mind with the next T20 World Cup in less than a year.

In the longest format, however, India was defeated in both Tests played during their tour of New Zealand, and they also fell short in the ICC World Test Championship final, which was held earlier this year in Southampton.

Following the New Zealand series, the team will travel to South Africa for a trip that will include both Tests and limited-overs matches.

India’ squad for NZ Tests: A Rahane (C), C Pujara (VC), KL Rahul, M Agarwal, S Gill, S Iyer, W Saha (WK), KS Bharat (WK), R Jadeja, R Ashwin, A Patel, J Yadav, I Sharma, U Yadav, Md Siraj, P Krishna, Virat Kohli (C, available for 2nd Test only).
