Live Cricket News: Chennai Super Kings fans slammed Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday after they posted an image of their ‘T20 masterstroke’ against batter MS Dhoni. Dhoni may be seen surrounded by a Test-like field setting and the scoreboard reading 74 for four in 10.5 overs in the Kolkata-based outfit’s Indian Premier League IPL match against Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016.

The image was a reference to Australia’s field setting in the fourth Ashes Test’s last minutes. The hosts needed a wicket in the last two overs on the fifth day at the Sydney Cricket Ground, but Stuart Broad and James Anderson stood fast despite as many as eight fielders gathering around them to frustrate Australia and pull off a thriller of a draw.

Under fading light, England were 270 for nine at stumps, considerably short of the 388-run mark but a better outcome than their three straight losses to Australia. Australia tried to put some pressure on England’s tail with a compacted field configuration as Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon roll their arms in an all-spin onslaught for the hosts.

It came down to Anderson fighting off Smith’s leg-spin and depriving Australia of a 4-0 lead in cricket’s most storied rivalry. The image of England batters surrounded by nine fielders, including the wicketkeeper, went popular on social media, and Kolkata Knight Riders KKR responded with their own “classic play” against Pune. KKR captioned, “That moment when a famous Test move really reminds you of a T20 masterstroke.”

It was a scene from KKR’s victory in a low-scoring match between the two teams. The defeat also hurt the Supergiants’ chances of making the last four, and Dhoni had a miserable day at the crease, scoring only eight runs off 22 deliveries.

Dhoni’s fans were not amused by Kolkata’s remark, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also took a shot at the two-time IPL champions. “It’s not a brilliant move! Just putting on a show, “With a laughing face emoji, the Chennai Super Kings star responded.

Kolkata fans were quick to remind the team that they had lost the IPL 2021 final by 27 runs. “At the same time, you forgot about last year’s finals,” a Twitter user remarked.
