Live Cricket News: On Monday, the stage was set for IPL 2021 Match 31 in Abu Dhabi, with Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore. Given their form in the first half of the season, Virat Kohli’s team were the favourites going into the match. However, it’s been four months, and it appears as a lot has happened in that time.

Eoin Morgan’s side needed a perfect team performance to turn around their season after winning only two of their first seven games. However, few expected them to completely outplay RCB in their first match of the UAE leg.

In a one-sided match, KKR demolish RCB

The Kolkata Knight Riders dominated the match from the start, dismissing Virat Kohli in the second over alone. As wickets tumbled like a pack of cards, RCB’s star-studded batting line-up had no answers for Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell. They were bowled out for 92 runs after a stunning collapse, and the match was over by then.

However, the KKR openers compounded their woes as Shubman Gill (48 off 34) and Venkatesh Iyer (41* off 27) went on a rampage, smashing the RCB bowlers all over the park. With 9 wickets in hand, they chased down the target in 10 overs.

Not only did RCB lose two points as a result of this dominant performance, but their net run rate also dropped to -0.71. KKR, on the other side, has risen to 5th place in the points table, with a significant increase in their NRR to +0.11.

Fans mock RCB for reverting to their old ways

The internet was quick to mock Virat Kohli’s team for losing so badly at the outset of the important second phase of the IPL 2021. Some fans argued that they were reverting to their previous form, in which they began to lose crucial matches in the competition. There were some hilarious reactions to RCB’s net run rate plummeting as KKR chased down the goal with 10 overs to spare.
