Latest Cricket News: Two members of Sri Lanka Cricket’s ground personnel working at the Sooriyawewa Stadium in Hambantota were murdered in an elephant assault, according to the SLC. Despite the fact that few facts have surfaced from the scene, it is believed that the attack was carried out by a single beast. The bodies of two staff members who were cycling home were discovered hundreds of metres apart.

This is significant news since the Lanka Premier League matches for the Eliminator, Qualifiers, and Final will be moved from Colombo to Hambantota. It should be mentioned that the Eliminator and first Qualifier are scheduled to take place on December 19 in Hambantota, and the elephant attack occurred not far from the stadium grounds.

A stadium was constructed near a wildlife refuge and a national park

Furthermore, the workers who died were preparing the ground for the T20 tournament’s final. The stadium was erected following the 2011 ODI World Cup, however, it is close to a nature sanctuary and a national park. The venue will host a One-Day International between Sri Lanka and the West Indies in February 2020.

Elephant attacks have been common in Sri Lanka, but the problem has only worsened since the country’s three-decade-long civil war ended in 2009, when the country’s development plans required humans to use land that was previously the habitat of native wildlife, resulting in the extinction of many animal species.

It’s also worth noting that Hambantota has been one of the hardest-hit locations as a result of the animal-human conflict.

Galle Gladiators are the current LPL 2021 table-toppers

Galle Gladiators are presently in first place in the Lanka Premier League 2021 points standings, with two victories and one defeat in three games. With a win in their lone game, the Colombo Stars are second in the points table, although their net run rate is +0.886. With two wins from two games, the Jaffna Kings are in third place, although their net run rate is +0.042. Dambulla Giants also have a win to their name after two games, with a net run rate of -1.238. The Kandy Warriors haven’t won a game yet.
