Latest Cricket News: The third Test between India and England began on Wednesday at Headingley. Despite the slightly gloomy weather in Leeds, Virat Kohli chose to bat first after winning the toss. Joe Root confessed that he was eager to bowl first, therefore it was a bold decision by the Indian captain. The England captain most likely had a good sense of the venue’s conditions, and he was proven correct in the first half of play on Day 1.

All eyes were on James Anderson before of this match, who had a dramatic outing in the last encounter, largely because of his banter with Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli.

There was always going to be extra pressure on Anderson on Wednesday with Stuart Broad and Mark Wood out, and the English veteran certainly played up to the expectations.

In the first over, Anderson removes the in-form KL Rahul

England has been plagued by the opening duo of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma throughout the series. With the home team seeking to claw their way back into the series, the duo had been playing some fantastic cricket at the top of the order, and they were anxious for an early breakthrough.

Anderson bowled a nice first over before pitching the fifth delivery way outside the off stump. KL Rahul was forced to play a drive, which finally led to his demise as he gained an edge and the ball went straight to Jos Buttler’s safe hands. For the first time in the series, India had lost an early wicket and was on the back foot early on Day 1.

The Anderson-Buttler combination strikes again, this time taking India’s second wicket

As India’s No. 3 Cheteshwar Pujara walked out to bat, England saw an opportunity to get rid of him, as he hasn’t been in great form recently. England was on top thanks to Joe Root’s offensive play. With Pujara not appearing at ease at the crease, it was clear that the wicket was about to fall.

On the first ball of the fifth over, Anderson bowled a peach of a delivery. As Jos Buttler shifted slightly to his right to collect an easy catch, the Indian batsman was once again bamboozled by Jimmy’s characteristic out-swinger. Within the first half-hour, India’s score was 4/2, with the home team leading.

Once again, Anderson triumphs over Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli vs. James Anderson — This was one of the key matchups to watch ahead of the series. After their fierce argument in the last round, the supporters were anticipating a resumption of the clash in the third bout.

On Wednesday, the Indian captain appeared at ease in the early stages of the innings, even playing a lovely shot right down the wicket of Anderson. However, the English pacer got the last laugh when Kohli edged one of the deliveries, and Buttler took over behind the wickets once more.

Anderson was pleased after earning England their third wicket in the opening session, and his jubilant celebration highlighted how important Kohli’s wicket was to him. India was reduced to 21/3 after Kohli was removed on 7. GO TO THE LIVE SCORECARD BY CLICKING HERE
