Latest Cricket News: Following a security notice from the New Zealand government, the tour of Pakistan has been cancelled. As a result, the Black Caps’ entire three-ODI and five-T20I tour has been cancelled. After the toss for the first ODI between the two sides did not take place at the planned hour, the Pakistan Cricket Board went to social media to tell the public.
Earlier reports said that there was a delay in the game’s start, however, PCB later clarified the situation via a tweet. The hosting cricket organisation informed New Zealand Cricket that it had received a security alert and had opted to postpone the series on its own.
“The BLACKCAPS are cancelling their trip to Pakistan following a New Zealand government security alert,” NZC tweeted shortly after PCB’s announcement. The team’s departure is currently being organised.” This was the first time the New Zealand cricket team had visited Pakistan in 18 years.
The Black Caps stated that the decision to cancel the entire tour was made “after an escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan, and advice from NZC security consultants on the ground,” according to a press release.
“I appreciate this will be a setback for the PCB, who have been fantastic hosts, but player safety is paramount, and we believe this is the only responsible option,” said NZC CEO David White.
Meanwhile, Heath Mills, the chief executive of the New Zealand Cricket Players Association, said: “We’ve been following this process closely and are entirely supportive of the decision… The players are safe; they’re in good hands, and everyone is acting in their best interests.”
The PCB, on the other side, stated that the Pakistani government, in collaboration with the hosting cricket board, made “foolproof security procedures” for all visiting teams. “We’ve assured the New Zealand Cricket Board of that. “The Prime Minister spoke personally to the Prime Minister of New Zealand and informed her that Pakistan has one of the best intelligence systems in the world and that there is no security threat of any kind for the visiting team,” the statement said, adding, “The security officials with the NZ team have been satisfied with the security arrangements made by the Pakistani government throughout their stay here.” PCB further indicated that the scheduled matches will be continued.
