Latest Cricket News: The third One-Day International (ODI) between India Women and Australia Women finished in India’s favour, with the squad successfully chasing down 264. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana got India off to a good start once again, this time with a 59-run partnership. Yastika Bhatia walked out in favour of captain Mithali Raj after Mandhana was defeated, and it proved to be a wise decision. Both Bhatia and Verma, the youngsters, performed admirably and formed a century partnership in the middle.
However, when Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh left in rapid succession, India appeared to be in trouble. Mithali couldn’t keep her emotions in check any longer and came out to bat at number five, but it was Alyssa Healy’s words from behind the stumps that drew the most attention from the audience. Healy was overheard criticising Raj for her poor strike rate in chases, claiming that it would favour the Australians.
“Mithali Raj only strikes at 50 yards in chases, so the longer she’s in, the happier we are,” Healy was overheard saying. Mithali Raj, on the other hand, went out for 16 from 28 balls.
India wins the third One-Day International by two wickets
Despite a strong start and appearing to be in command for the majority of the game, India managed to hold on till the final over. The lower middle-order was rattled and lost wickets at regular intervals. India broke Australia’s 26-match winning streak in One-Day Internationals thanks to Sneh Rana and her luck. Jhulan Goswami, though, sealed the game for Women in Blue with a boundary.
Previously, Indian bowlers had brought Australia’s top four down to within 100 runs. Earlier in the innings, Jhulan Goswami took out Rachel Haynes and Meg Lanning, while Pooja Vastrakar took out Ellyse Perry. However, last match’s star Beth Mooney stood in the middle once more, scoring a half-century. Ashleigh Gardner (67) and Tahlia McGrath (67) backed her up admirably (47). Australia Women concluded with a score of 264-9, to which India responded with a score of 266/8 and won the game. Jhulan Goswami was chosen Player of the Match for her three wickets and important eight runs that helped the team win the game.
