Fast bowler Jofra Archer has been left out of the ODI series against India due to a persistent elbow problem. He will also miss the start of the IPL in the hope of being available for the Ashes. The ECB said in a statement that the injury was hampering Archer’s performance levels while Eoin Morgan said that the injury has gotten worse recently and needed attention.
“Jofra Archer is returning to the UK for further management and investigation of his right elbow injury.” An ECB statement read. “Jofra’s elbow issue has deteriorated over the course of the Twenty20 International series and made it increasingly challenging for him to maintain performance levels. He has been deemed unfit for selection for the ODI series that features matches on 23, 26 and 28 March.”
England has selected a 14-man squad for the ODI series from the squad that was present for the T20 series which the tourists narrowly lost. Leg spinner Matt Parkinson was included in the squad for the ODI series after being a reserve in the T20 series.
“I have got nothing but praise for Matt. The way he has conducted himself, trained and got stuck in helping the lads. He has been a delight to have on tour.” Head coach Chris Silverwood said.
