IPL 2021: While Chennai Super Kings fans had hoped for a stronger start than they got, the CSK’s best player Suresh Raina strolled into the middle for a brief appearance, which was a pretty disappointing stretch of play from their perspective. After Mumbai Indians bowlers Trent Boult and Adam Milne picked up early wickets and Ambati Rayudu damaged his arm and retired hurt, Raina had to walk in. Raina, like the other CSK batsmen, never seemed at ease throughout his six-ball spell at the crease.

Meanwhile, his lack of foot movement in the curtain-raiser of the second part of the tournament suggested he was nervous. As he got into uncomfortable postures to hit the balls, his feet seemed to be stuck in place. He was also fortunate enough to edge one Trent Boult delivery for a boundary, but the southpaw perished in virtually a duplicate of a similar shot, leaving CSK 3 down for 7 (perhaps 4 down) with Rayudu’s injury looking serious.

Suresh Raina also fractured the bottom of his bat in the ball with which he was dismissed, in a particularly brutal stroke from the senior player. A video of the incident became viral as well.

At the toss, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni stated that the team’s major concern was the lack of Sam Curran, who is currently in quarantine. In his absence, Dwayne Bravo has taken over as the bowling all-rounder. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis has recovered from his injury and has joined the Chennai XI immediately. Moeen Ali and Josh Hazlewood round up the four international players for Chennai Super Kings, joining du Plessis and Bravo.

While Dhoni chose to bat first, the team’s start was far from ideal, as they lost four wickets for 24 runs, with Rayudu suffering an injury. For Chennai to win this game and climb to the top of the points table, their bottom order, including Ruturaj Gaikwad, will have to fire, as well as their bowlers.

Despite being without skipper Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians looked like a squad on a mission on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium, bowling and fielding with explosive intensity.
