The Delhi Capitals were eliminated from the IPL 2021 by the Kolkata Knight Riders in a dramatic Qualifier 2 match on Wednesday. While many cricket pundits projected that Rishabh Pant’s side would win the tournament in Dubai, their impressive campaign was interrupted in the closing stages of the tournament when they suffered a hattrick of losses and were forced to withdraw.

The DC players were devastated after the setback, as they had come agonisingly close in both qualification matches but had fallen short. Prithvi Shaw’s post-match reaction practically summed up what this young Delhi team would be going through after coming so close to winning their first IPL title in two seasons in a row.

The franchise, however, differed slightly between IPL 2020 and IPL 2021. While Shreyas Iyer was the captain of the side last year, Rishabh Pant led his soldiers this time around. Pant had a difficult outing in Sharjah, and the 24-year-old did not appear to be in the right frame of mind when he interacted with the presenters shortly after the match ended.

Rishabh Pant suffered a heartbreak

After a few hours, the DC captain took some time to reflect on the game and the entire campaign in an emotional Instagram post. According to him, “Last night ended in heartbreak, but I couldn’t be more proud of guiding this squad of incredible warriors. We fought hard all season, and while we may have fallen short on some days, we always gave it our all “Recent.”

The 24-year-old also thanked the team’s management and fans, who have been absolutely fantastic for the Delhi Capitals. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the owners, management, staff, my teammates, and, most importantly, our devoted fans. You all helped to make this holiday season memorable “Pant was added.

Pant is expected to remain with the Delhi Capitals

While reading what Pant wrote in his caption would have made any DC fan happy, it was the final sentence that would have made them twice as happy. The powerful wicketkeeper concluded the article by saying, “We will come back stronger,” implying that he will remain with the franchise for next season, despite massive auctions taking place.

While there has been no formal confirmation from the franchise or the player, it appears that Rishabh Pant will continue to lead the side as the Indian Premier League enters a new era with the addition of two more teams.
