There have been numerous changes in the squads of various franchises ahead of the second phase of the IPL 2021, with many players withdrawing from the tournament for various reasons. In the last few days, all team managements have had their work cut out for them, and they have made prompt announcements of replacements in their squads. When the actual list of replacements was revealed on the IPL’s official website, however, it came as a bit of a shock.
Mumbai Indians were one of the sides that appeared to be sticking with the same lineup for the UAE leg. The 5-time IPL champions will make one alteration to their lineup from the first half of the season in India, according to reports.
According to the IPL’s official website, “In place of Mohsin Khan, the Mumbai Indians have called up Gujarat’s left-arm medium-pacer Roosh Kalaria. Kalaria has picked up 271 wickets in 54 First-Class matches, 46 List A games, and 31 T20s so far.”
For the Mumbai Indians, a like-for-like alternative has been found
MI has made a like-for-like replacement in Roosh Kalaria, who replaces left-arm bowler Mohsin Khan, who was purchased by the team for INR 20 lakhs in the IPL 2020 auction. Despite the fact that Mohsin travelled with the team to the UAE, he must have had an injury during a training session, which could have resulted in his removal.
When it comes to the substitute player, Mumbai Indians have brought in Roosh Kalaria, a promising domestic talent. The 28-year-old is most known for his left-arm pace bowling, but he can also bat down the order. Kalaria has scored 73 runs at a strike rate of 119.67 in 31 T20 matches for Gujarat in the domestic circuit, while also scalping 37 wickets at an outstanding economy rate of 6.53.
In the 2012 World Cup, Kalaria was a member of India’s U-19 squad
Roosh Kalaria was also a member of India’s under-19 side at the 2012 World Cup in Australia when the Men in Blue won the tournament. In the last couple of seasons, he has been knocking on the doors of many franchises, especially after finishing as Gujarat’s best wicket-taker in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season.
If he gets a chance to play XI for MI in the second round of the IPL 2021, it will undoubtedly be a dream come true for the 28-year-old.
