Glenn Maxwell, all-rounder for Royal Challengers Bangalore, did not hold back in taking a position against social media trolls, of which several players of his team have been victims following his side’s exit from IPL 2021. Notably, Bangalore was eliminated from the competition after a four-wicket defeat in the Eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday.

With Virat Kohli having previously stated that he will be standing down as captain of the team from next year, the match turned out to be his final as RCB captain. Maxwell, the side’s leading run-scorer in the competition, failed to produce in this must-win encounter, falling victim to a Sunil Narine delivery after scoring 15 runs off 18 balls.

However, even after the team’s defeat, numerous RCB players have been the target of social media vitriol. The top Australian cricketer expressed his displeasure with the situation, calling it “absolutely awful.” He was quick to add a note of thanks to the “genuine” fans who have stuck with the team through it all and supported them despite the fact that they haven’t won a single championship in 14 years.

“Some of the nonsense that has been spreading on social media is really revolting!” We are human beings who strive to do our best every day. “Perhaps instead of spreading abuse, try being a decent person,” Maxwell posted on social media.

“Thank you to the TRUE fans who offered their love and gratitude for the athletes who gave it their best! Unfortunately, there are some awful people on social media that make it a bad place to be. It is intolerable!!! Don’t be like them, please “He continued.

Here’s his tweet:

Trolls on social media reached a new low when they threw insults at RCB all-rounder Dan Christian’s partner. Christian even requested the crowd not to yell at him and admitted that he had a bad game, but it’s part of the game. Notably, Christian let up 29 runs in 1.4 overs while making only 9 runs off 8 balls with the bat—his highest score this season.

Meanwhile, Kolkata’s victory has moved them closer to the finals, but they must beat Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday to meet Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on Friday.
