Cricket News: In India, there is a debate about a quick change. The transition of ODI captaincy from Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma is far from complete, and now Kohli’s boyhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has questioned the BCCI’s decision. On December 8, the senior selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma, tweeted their decision to name Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain.

Since then, the cricket community has had various opinions on the way the transition was communicated by the apex body. “Kohli expressly stood down from T20 captaincy but the selectors being the supreme decision-maker must have asked him to either resign the captaincy from both white-ball forms or not step down at all,” according to Sharma, who taught Kohli during his early days.

I don’t recall Ganguly ever stopping Kohli from stepping down as T20 captain: Sharma

“I can’t recollect any such instance where Ganguly made efforts to stop Kohli from relinquishing T20 captaincy before the World Cup,” Sharma said, expressing his amazement at BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s remark.

The coach also thought the way the entire scenario had played out was “sad.” Adding to that, he was alleged to have said, “The selection committee does not give an explanation for their judgement. We have no idea what the management, BCCI, or selectors desire. There is no openness or clarification.”

Several individuals have raised concerns about the entire process, but BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was quick to respond, claiming that the decision was made in the best interests of Indian cricket and that the body reached a resolution after consulting with Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

In terms of cricket, the Indian squad will travel to South Africa for a month-long tour that will include three Tests and as many ODIs as possible. Kohli will captain the squad in the Test series, while Rohit Sharma will captain the team in the white-ball format for the first time.
