Cricket News: So far, the 2nd Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies in Galle has been an emotional roller coaster. Because of weather delays, there hasn’t been much movement on the field for the first three days, but whatever cricket has been played has been outstanding. In the first innings, it was Veerasammy Permaul who stole the show with a 5-wicket haul that helped the visitors restrict Sri Lanka to 204 runs.

On Day 3 of the match, it was undeniably a wicket that aided the spinners, and Sri Lanka’s trio showed up. Ramesh Mendis and Praveen Jayawickrama bowled superbly to put the West Indies under pressure, but it was Lasith Embuldeniya who supplied the match-winning moment.

Despite the fact that the left-arm spinner only managed to take one wicket in the first part of the day, it was undoubtedly one of the best Test bowling performances of the year. When Embuldeniya faced WI captain Kraigg Brathwaite, who was batting on 72, it all transpired in the 72nd over of the innings.

In Tests, one of the finest deliveries of 2021?

The left-arm spinner bowled a delivery that was pitched way outside leg from over the wicket. Braithwaite was pushed forward in an attempt to cover the delivery line, but the ball spun fast. The batsman was completely befuddled by the deviation after pitching, and the ball sailed past his outside edge by a significant margin before reaching the top of the middle stump.

Embuldeniya had removed the well-set Braithwaite with arguably one of the greatest deliveries of his Test career. Something extraordinary was required to return the West Indies captain to the pavilion, and the masterclass delivered by Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Ravi Karunaratne was surely that.

Here’s the video:

The dismissal allowed Sri Lanka to re-enter the game, and it was Ramesh Mendis who wreaked havoc after that, taking four more wickets in rapid succession to put the West Indies in trouble, with their total at 212/8 at the time of writing.
