Cricket News

Cricket News: Gurinder Sandhu scored a remarkable hat-trick for the Sydney Thunder against the Perth Scorchers in a Big Bash League match at the Carrara Oval in Queensland on Thursday. Sandhu, who is of Indian heritage and was born in Punjab, picked up his third hat-trick in Australian domestic cricket after dismissing captain Ashton Turner, Aaron Hardie, and Laurie Evans off consecutive balls in the 16th over.

Sandhu has three hat-tricks in his career, although some players go their entire careers without scoring a hat-trick. He has previously scored a hat-trick for Tasmania against Victoria in the 2018 JLT One-Day Cup. He completed with an astounding 7/56 record, including a hat-trick. Sandhu’s second hat-trick was just a few days ago.

In fact, Sandhu repeated the feat in the Marsh Cup against the South Australia Redbacks in November of 2021, becoming the first man to take two domestic 50-over hat-tricks. And now, with yet another hat-trick, Sandhu has made history by becoming the first cricketer in Australia to score two List-A hat-tricks. It’s also a Thunder bowler’s first hat-trick.

Sandhu has played in two One-Day Internationals for Australia, and made his debut against India in January 2015, taking the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane. He took 2/49 against England in the next match, removing centurion Ian Bell and captain Eoin Morgan for ducks.
