Cricket News: Since his debut for India in 2016, Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the biggest stars in the Indian cricket team. After five years, Bumrah has already played 141 games at the highest level and taken 268 wickets. Notably, it took Bumrah two years after his white-ball debut for India to play his first red-ball game for the country. Many thought he wouldn’t be as successful in Test cricket as he had been in limited-overs cricket, but Bumrah, as always, proved his detractors wrong and just became the fastest Indian bowler to take 100 Test wickets, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev.
Bumrah has a 6.66 economy rate in T20Is, according to his stats. Meanwhile, he has a 7.39 economy in the IPL. Bumrah has progressed as a bowler throughout the years. Last year in the IPL, he was the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker. Batsmen, in particular, presently find it difficult to play Bumrah, and as a result, many surrender to the right-arm pacer.
However, there are a few batters who have had success against Bumrah. Former India opener and ex-KKR captain Gautam Gambhir has commented on the matter, claiming that AB de Villiers is the only batsman capable of facing the Mumbai Indians’ bowler.
“With people like AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell, he (Virat) has a massive cushion.” Even if it’s not Maxwell, AB is a tremendous cushion because there is only one player who can take on someone like Jasprit Bumrah and it was AB de Villiers. In a chat with Star Sports Network, Gambhir said, “I have not seen anyone else who has done it consistently against Bumrah, but AB is a freak.”
It’s worth remembering that AB de Villiers, a former South African cricketer, was another big force in the sport. In 176 games, he has amassed 5056 IPL runs at a strike rate of 152.38. In the tournament, the experienced batsman has three centuries and 40 fifties to his credit.
