Cricket News: England head coach Chris Silverwood stated that bowling stalwarts James Anderson and Stuart Broad are both “healthy and ready” for the second Test of the Ashes series, which may come as a welcome relief to Joe Root. Both players were notable for missing the first Test, in which the visitors were crushed by the hosts in every department.
“Broad and Anderson are still one of the greatest in the industry, and they’re also fantastic with the pink ball. Yes, they are available. Stuart, like Jimmy, will be healthy and ready for the second Test,” Silverwood was said to have said.
However, the inclusion of both players is still up in the air, as the head coach has yet to clarify the situation.
“I haven’t told anyone yet that they’re going to play. Behind the scenes, the lads have been practising with the pink ball. And we have a highly talented group of bowlers on our hands. We have potential, and two of the best are still up to our sleeve,” according to a portion of his remarks.
Root and Silverwood were particularly chastised for leaving out the veterans, despite their absence is a huge omission in the first Test. Both players are considered as among the greatest in Test cricket and have the ability to contribute significantly to the England whites. Anderson has the most Test wickets of any fast bowler. He is the only pacer to have taken more than 600 Test wickets. In terms of wickets, his countryman Broad is only two wickets behind him and Glenn McGrath.
The second Ashes Test will begin on December 16 at the Adelaide Oval and will be the series’ first day-night match. Australia, on the other hand, has an amazing record on the ground, having yet to lose a single day-night match, including the most recent Ashes contest in 2017/18.
