Cricket News: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test match against England at Old Trafford, according to the latest news from the Indian men’s cricket team camp in Manchester. The match is likely to begin later on Friday, and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to replace Jadeja in the starting XI. In this series, Ashwin has yet to play a single Test match. India is presently in control of the series, leading 2-1.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami, who was rested for the fourth Test match, is anticipated to take over for Jasprit Bumrah, who may be rested ahead of the IPL and T20 World Cup seasons. While there was some COVID-19 anxiety surrounding the match, with many support staff members testing positive, the players have all returned negative tests, and the match appears to be proceeding as planned.

Over four test matches in the United Kingdom, Ashwin’s non-selection has been dubbed the greatest non-selection ever: Vaughan

When questioned why he didn’t pick Ashwin in the fourth Test at Oval when he came for the toss, India captain Virat Kohli responded that with their pacers bowling over the wicket, Ravindra Jadeja bowling to the English left-handers fits him.

Several cricket analysts and pundits were not impressed with his reasoning. Former England captain Michael Vaughan even referred to Ashwin’s non-selection as the greatest non-selection ever seen in four test matches in the UK. Vaughan also used Ashwin’s records to emphasise his case.

“@ashwinravi99’s non-selection has to be the finest non-selection we’ve ever seen in four Tests in the UK!!! 5 Test 100s and 413 Test wickets!!!! #ENGvIND craziness…, “he penned

Prithi Narayanan, Ashwin’s wife, had also made a dig at the team’s management. Prithi just shared a video of their kid using a telescope to hunt for her father on Twitter.

She captioned the video, “Looking for @ashwinravi99.”

Ashwin was recently picked in India’s T20 World Cup squad, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Despite not playing a white-ball game in 2017, the 34-year-solid old’s efforts in the IPL have earned him a call-up to the national squad for the flagship tournament.
