Cricket News: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir planted a sapling on his 26th birthday (November 30), days after he died, as a poignant homage to late Australian cricketer Phil Hughes, who died of an injury sustained during a cricket match after a ball hit his head. That sapling is maturing and has reached the age of seven. On social media, a photo of that is trending.
“On Phil Hughes’s 26th birthday (days after he died), Gautam Gambhir planted a tree in his remembrance at Delhi’s Roshanara Cricket Ground, and that tree is 7 years old today,” read a caption beside a photo of the plantation.
Here’s the tweet in full:

When Delhi was due to face Saurashtra in a Ranji Trophy match at that venue, the sapling was planted. Apart from his time as a commentator on various cricketing shows and broadcasts, Gambhir has retired from all kinds of cricket and has converted into an active politician.
The former India World Cup-winning cricketer is a Member of Parliament for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in East Delhi and has recently received death threats from ISIS Kashmir, which he reported to the Delhi Police.
Security has been reinforced outside Gambhir’s residence in the national capital, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Central Shweta Chauhan, and he has reported two additional threats.
“The Delhi Police and IPS Shweta Chauhan (who is also a DCP in the Central District) are unable to intervene because our spies are also present in the forces,” says a source. According to trustworthy media reports, ‘ISIS Kashmir’ sent a threat email around 1:37 a.m.
Ajinkya Rahane is very fortunate to still be a member of the Indian dressing room, according to Gambhir. His remark came ahead of India’s maiden Test match against New Zealand, which would be held in Kanpur.
“Rahane is fortunate to still be a part of this team because he is the captain. But he’s given another chance now, and hopefully, he’ll make the most of it “Following Gambhir’s comments to Star Sports, Rahane had another lacklustre performance in the first Test, and it would be fascinating to watch if he gets another chance once Virat Kohli returns for the second Test.
