After a great performance in the T20I series against New Zealand, in which they dominated their opponents and won the series 3-0, Team India will now try to replicate that performance in the Test matches. The first of the two tests are scheduled to begin on November 25, and while usual skipper Virat Kohli will be absent, Ajinkya Rahane will lead the squad.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, on the other hand, says Rahane is extremely fortunate to still be a part of India’s Test team. He went on to say that Rahane should make the most of this chance to reclaim his lost form. With Rohit Sharma resting and Shubman Gill also in contention for the opener’s place, Gambhir also backed KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal to open in the two-Test matches.

Rahane now has a new opportunity: Gambhir

“Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul will open the innings because he did so in England, and Shubman Gill will bat at No. 4 most likely. Plus, Ajinkya Rahane is fortunate to still be a member of this team because he is the captain. But he’s got another chance now, and hopefully, he’ll make the most of it “According to Star Sports, Gambhir said.

Rahane’s formed has been poor, as he has only scored one fifty-plus score since striking a century in the historic Melbourne Test during India’s final Border Gavaskar Trophy campaign in 2020-21.

Rahane has 644 runs at a strike rate of 24.76 in his last 15 Tests. For the first time since November 2015, Rahane’s career batting average has dropped below 40. With experienced batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma out from the Kanpur test, Rahane’s batting order will be heavily reliant on him.

When the Indian T20I team accomplished a clean sweep of New Zealand, Rahane was among those who praised them. He was certain that the club would have many more triumphs like this in the future.

“Congratulations to @ImRo45 on a fantastic start to the season with the series victory yesterday. There will be many more to come! “The 33-year-old had sent out a tweet.
