Cricket News: Test To Be Held In Delhi After Five Years, Dharamsala and Ahmedabad Are Also In The Battle

Cricket News: When Pat Cummins’ Australia visit India for the high-profile Border-Gavaskar four-match series in February-March of next year, Delhi will host a Test match for the first time in more than five years. The following Test matches will most likely be played at Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Nagpur, or Chennai, among other cities. These four matches will determine India’s position in the second round of the World Test Championship (WTC), making the series significant. To advance to the championship game, India may even need to overcome Australia 4-0, which would be a tough task for Rohit Sharma’s squad.

As part of the ICC Future Tours & Programme, it will be divided into five games instead of the usual four-Test series beginning in 2024.

The two years of the COVID-19 pandemic prevented Delhi from participating in the BCCI’s rotation formula, but it is now set to receive one of the Test matches. The city last hosted a Test match against Sri Lanka in December 2017.

Delhi is currently expected to host the second of the four Test matches, a senior BCCI official who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity stated. As soon as the Tours and Fixtures committee holds its meeting, the dates will be released.

Dharamsala, which hosted its first and only Test almost six years ago against Australia in March, 2017, will probably host the third Test.”

Given that Bengaluru recently hosted a Test match against Sri Lanka earlier this year, Australia will likely start the series in one of Nagpur, Chennai, or Hyderabad. It was a day/night test.

At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the series’ conclusion is anticipated.

It is still unknown whether the four Tests will be conducted during the day or at night.

Three pink-ball Tests have so far been held at BCCI venues: the country’s first one, against Bangladesh, at Eden Gardens; the second, against England, at Motera; and the third, against Sri Lanka, in Bengaluru.

The BCCI has hosted eight Test matches since the COVID-19-induced break, including four of England in 2021 and two each against New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
