After meeting the £54 million release clause for Timo Werner at RB Leipzig, Chelsea is actively working to secure the signing of Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell.
The deal with Chilwell is more complicated than Werner’s, due to the lack of a release clause.
The club therefore needs to negotiate a fee with Leicester to take him to Stamford Bridge next season, Goal reports.
However, Leicester has not put a price tag on its key asset, which means they intend to keep him.
In any case, Chilwell probably will cost over £80 m.
Neither Liverpool nor Manchester United were willing to pay that money for the 24-year-old forward, allowing the Blues to close in ahead of next season on their second signature.
Chelsea could go on adding players in swap deals or loans depending on how their summer develops later on.
