Lawrence Okolie has begun his reign as the new WBO cruiserweight champion after defeating Krzysztof Glowacki with a right hand. Okolie landed a big right hand in he sixth round with referee Marcus McDonell waiving off the fight crowning the newest British world titleholder. He followed in the footsteps of his countrymen, Tony Bellew, David Haye and Johnny Nelson in the 200lb class.
The Pole was being picked off by the longer limbs of Okolie, who stabbed out jabs and stinging body shots in the second round. Okolie continued to target Glowacki’s ribs in the third, then intensified his assault in the fourth as a right hand wobbled his 34-year-old opponent.
Okolie kept up the pressure with constant jabs whenever Glowaci came into the range in the fifth round before finishing the bout off with a big right hand in the sixth round. A destructive right hand dumped Glowacki on his back and he clambered unsteadily to his feet, prompting referee McDonnell to signal Okolie’s triumph.
