Caroline Dubois, 20, of Team GB, was defeated by Thailand’s Sudaporn Seesondee in the lightweight quarter-finals by a split decision (3-2); Galal Yafai defeats Cuba’s Yosbany Veitia by a split decision (4-1) to advance to the men’s flyweight semi-finals.

Caroline Dubois’ Olympic journey came to an abrupt end on Tuesday morning when she lost in the quarter-finals by a razor-thin margin.

In the women’s lightweight competition, Team GB’s Dubois was defeated 3-2 by Thailand’s Sudaporn Seesondee, ending her hopes of winning a medal.

When the scorecards were revealed after a close battle that might have gone either way, she looked visibly surprised.

Dubois, 20, is the Youth Olympic champion and has already won games against Kosovo and the United States in Tokyo 2020.

The loss brings an end to a thrilling journey for heavyweight challenger Daniel Dubois’ sister. Her first fights as an adult amateur took place in the Olympic qualifiers last year, and after the Games were postponed, she went on to defeat the Rio 2016 bronze medalist to qualify for Tokyo.

Galal Yafai advanced to the men’s flyweight semi-final, ensuring six medals for Team GB in boxing.

Birmingham’s Yafai, a Rio 2016 veteran, outworked Cuba’s Yosbany Veitia in a split decision to take home at least a bronze medal.
