Boxing: Following his spectacular victory against Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury is “extremely happy and humbled” after receiving two accolades from The Ring Magazine.

After retaining his WBC title and Ring Magazine belt with a stunning stoppage of Wilder in October, Britain’s heavyweight hero won The Ring Magazine’s ‘Fight of the Year’ and ‘Round of the Year’ accolades.

In Las Vegas, Fury climbed off the mat twice in the fourth round, while Wilder was knocked out in the third, tenth, and eleventh rounds.

When winning the ‘Fight of the Year’ award, Fury said, “I’m totally happy and overwhelmed to be acknowledged by Ring Magazine yet again.”

“That’s more plaques to hang on the wall and more awards to add to the collection.” I’m overjoyed, and I’d like to give a special thanks to Deontay Wilder, who provided me with a dance partner in order to win this award.

“It was a fantastic fight, but not so much for me and Deontay because battles like that rob you of years, but it was an amazing battle and a fitting conclusion to a fantastic trilogy. It had all been well worth it.

“It was widely regarded as one of the best heavyweight battles in recent memory, and it was an honour to be a part of it.”

When Fury was dropped twice during a spirited fightback by Wilder, he appeared to be on the verge of his first professional defeat.

Fury remarked of his ‘Round of the Year’ accolade, “It was a difficult old three minutes.”

“When you’re sparring in the gym, you don’t get knocked down like that, and then bang, you’re in a fight with three knockdowns in two rounds.

“It was insane! I’ve never been dropped twice in a single round before. Everyone else felt it was over, but I didn’t. I was always confident that I would rise to the occasion and triumph.”

Fury is the first British boxer to have won the ‘Fighter of the Year’ award twice, in 2015 and 2020 (co-winner with Teofimo Lopez in 2020).

In 2018, he won the ‘Round of the Year’ award for his fight against Wilder, which finished in a split decision draw.
