Boxing Tournament: Martin Bakole wants to challenge for the heavyweight world title next year and believes he can give the best fighters in his division “a lot of trouble,” according to his trainer Billy Nelson.

Bakole put up a career-best performance in a points triumph over Tony Yoka, France’s 2016 Olympic gold medalist, on Saturday, cementing his standing as one of the division’s most dangerous challengers.

The Congolese fighter had been a member of Tyson Fury’s training camp in Scotland as the WBC heavyweight world champion prepared to meet Dilian Whyte in April.

“I’m very happy with the result on Saturday night,” Nelson told Sky Sports News. “I think that win will put Martin in the top five or six in most of the rankings.

“Going forward, we just want a good name, one or two more victories and I’m sure he’ll be in an ideal place to fight for a world title at the beginning of next year – that’s the plan.”
