Boxing Ring: Tommy Fletcher has been compared to Deontay Wilder in terms of punching power, and he has stated, “I can’t dispute with that.”

Before making his professional debut, the 6’7″ teen southpaw has earned a reputation for his hard-hitting style.

“He has the power of Deontay Wilder, but he also has the IQ of Wilder,” stated his trainer Mark Tibbs.

According to Fletcher: “At the age of 14, I was knocking out grown men. They were both heavyweights in their late twenties.”

He explained to Sky Sports why he made the daring comparison to Wilder: “It’s something I can’t argue with. That’s what a lot of people are saying. The pudding will be the judge.

“That’s what you’ll see if you look at my amateur record – the fights I’ve won and the people I’ve stopped.

“The list goes on and on. But I’m not sure if I’d be respected if I started naming people!”

Fletcher’s abilities are already well-known among amateurs, he explained: “I won the fastest stoppage at the Junior European Championships in Russia.

“At the weigh-in, the guy was bothering me on the scales.

“In the first few seconds, there’s a high lead hand, a double jab, a backhand, and a bang!

“The ref recognised it right away and waved it off. Everyone had gone insane!

“It was probably six or seven seconds,” says the narrator.

As a novice, his knockout punch became visible, according to Fletcher: “I was already strong as a junior, and I was knocking out people who were taller and bigger than me.

“My strength comes from within. You can’t teach someone how to be powerful.

“I first knocked someone down when I was 14 years old. Then I sparred once more, and the same thing happened. It continued happening as I stepped forward, so I knew I was capable.”

Fletcher is adamant that when he competes professionally for the first time, he will show considerably more than just one huge punch.

“I am undoubtedly powerful,” he remarked, “but don’t rule me out – I can also box.”

“I can stand there and argue, or I can get behind my jab and bob around, making my opponents look foolish.

“Forget about my backhand; I can also jab and move.

“People, on the other hand, want to witness knockouts. I’ll be on the lookout for ways to amuse myself. Expect a flurry of activity from me.”

SJAM, his management, stated: “Tommy Fletcher is a big, rangy southpaw with a lot of power.

“To begin, he will fight at the light-heavyweight division.

“As an amateur, he achieved a lot as a two-time national champion and an international champion.”

Because of his height, Fletcher has his sights set on boxing’s top division: heavyweight “Imagine what I’ll be like when I’m 25. In a few years, I will undoubtedly be a heavyweight.”
