Boxing News: Vasiliy Lomachenko is careful about using “speed” and “reaction” to override his opponent Richard Commey’s striking style.
Lomachenko can take another step to regain lightweight supremacy when he takes on Commey at 2 am on Sunday morning.
Ghana’s Commey has 27 knockouts out of 30 wins and poses a great threat to end Lomachenko’s rebound.
“He’s got a lot of strength and range, experience, so it’s going to be a very interesting fight for the fans for me,” Lomachenko told Sky Sports.
“During the fight, you must always focus on your strategy and always on your speed and reaction.”
Lomachenko and Commey lost to Teofimo López, who recently awarded all-important belts in the lightweight class to George Kambosos Jr.
“I know it’s not an easy fight, but I’ll go,” warned Commey Lomachenko.
“Losing is part of boxing, so no matter how you lose, it’s about coming back. So whatever happens to the Lopez fight, it is what it is and I took it like a man.
” I knew that I needed it came back and I came back really strong and that’s why Loma picked me and we’ll see what happens on Saturday. ”Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who promotes Lomachenko, believes he’s the mandatory challenger for Kambosos Jr a win this weekend.
“I am optimistic that Loma will be fighting for the title again by the end of next year,” said Arum.
Dean Lonergan, the Australian promoter who previously worked with Top Rank, said: “The key to George is that he must defend and win these titles against a big name if he is to become a big player in Australia.”
