Boxing News: Tommy Fury has pulled out of his bout with Jake Paul in favour of a rematch with Tyron Woodley.

He revealed that Fury is suffering from “a nasty chest infection and a shattered rib.”

Fury said, “I am incredibly heartbroken that I have been forced to withdraw from my bout with Jake Paul.”

“Everything was going so well at the start of my camp, and I never anticipated anything to get in the way of a victory on December 18.”

“I can’t convey how upset I am, and I sincerely hope we can reschedule this fight in the New Year; this fight is more important to me than anything else.” Regrettably, I’m now concentrating on my rehabilitation and a future rescheduling date.”

Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, said: “We’re heartbroken for Tommy. This was a significant opportunity for him to demonstrate his abilities to the rest of the world. Regrettably, he has had to withdraw since he is clearly not 100 per cent. We’ll see what we can do with Jake Paul’s team to reschedule for the New Year.”

Paul had this to say about Fury: “What exactly is going on in that camp is unknown.

“I’ve had to deal with a fractured nose. I’ve fought while being sick.

“He succumbed to the strain. He was irritated by the [trash talk].”

Instead, Paul will face former UFC champion Woodley for a rematch after defeating him earlier this year.

Paul has stated that if Woodley defeats him, he will give his future opponent an additional $500,000.

“When my team woke me up on Friday to inform me Tommy was pulling out, I told them I’m ready to fight anyone on December 18,” he said of Woodley.

“I out-boxed him for the first time. I’m going to punish him this time and leave no question.”

Fury and Paul had been arguing back and forth for weeks, culminating in a tense press conference last week, but they must now wait to put their animosity to rest.

Since switching from YouTube to boxing, Paul has gone undefeated in his four professional matches.

Each of his seven matches has been won by the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
