Boxing News: Tommy Fury’s rematch with Jake Paul is being arranged, and his promoter Frank Warren said, “I believe it will happen.”
The feud between Tyson Fury, the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, and the YouTuber-turned-boxer began with a series of social media spats that evolved into challenges to settle it in the ring.
“We’re working on contracts right now,” Fury’s promoter Warren told Sky Sports.
“We realise it doesn’t signify anything unless they’re signed.
“If it happens, it will take place in the United States.
“I believe it will occur. We’re not far from completing it.”
Fury recently made his US debut on the undercard of Paul’s finest win to date, a victory over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.
When their paths intersected, they were in the midst of a heated backstage brawl.
Fury’s older brother, the heavyweight champion, chimed in on the feud, declaring that if Tommy did not defeat Paul, he would retire from boxing.
This spurred Paul to double the stakes: if he lost, he would give Fury an extra $500,000, but if Fury lost, he would have to alter his name to ‘Tommy Fumbles’ for a year.
“Part of the contract is that we have to decide what the other guy’s name has to change too!” Warren laughed.
“That has to be reproduced.”
Since leaving the online world for the boxing ring, Paul has won all four of his battles.
Fury, who rose to prominence on Love Island, is unbeaten in seven fights.
“They’re both newbies,” Warren explained. “Tommy has fought seven times, while the other person has fought four times.
“Tommy has a lot of things to learn. He needs to hone his art. He had his last amateur battle when he was 15 years old.
“But what if he can earn the money he would make from this fight? Who am I to obstruct the process? It’s a game-changer.
“Jake has done an amazing job. He has been able to monetize this.
“When Fury and Paul fought on the same night, the venue was packed. The crowd arrived at 7 p.m. and stayed to watch every single battle.
“On the show, we had Daniel Dubois.
“It’s quite incredible.”
Warren had the following prediction about Fury vs. Paul: “The press conferences and everything will be a lot of fun. They’re both funny people.
“The battle itself? Tommy may be too much for him.
“Let’s get it signed and see what happens.”
