Boxing News: At The SSE Arena in Wembley, David Avanesyan successfully defended his European welterweight championship with a second-round stoppage, while Richard Riakporhe, Germaine Brown, and Ebonie Jones all earned points triumphs.

At The SSE Arena in Wembley, David Avanesyan savagely stopped Liam Taylor in a dramatic shootout to defend his European welterweight title.

The Russian’s devastating power was pivotal in a flurry of rounds, forcing Taylor to take a knee and then stopping him on the ropes as they fought freely at close quarters at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

Taylor immediately tried to exchange hooks in the first round, but he was forced to take a knee following a stinging right hand from Avanesyan.

Taylor jumped to his feet and began his defiant onslaught in the second, but he couldn’t stop Avanesyan, who unleashed a barrage of damaging shots, prompting referee Mark Lyson to step in.

Avanesyan had retained his European title with a nasty stoppage victory against Josh Kelly in February.

After being defeated on points by Lamont Peterson in a bout for the WBA title in 2017, the 33-year-old could now aim for another well-deserved world title fight.

“Listen, you’ve got to be a strong puncher to keep David off, otherwise he’ll keep marching through you like he did tonight,” Avanesyan’s trainer Carl Greaves told Sky Sports.

“He [Taylor] took a strong shot, and the referee made the correct decision because this man is a fantastic finisher.” He’s a hunter.

“What is it, five stoppages in a row?” Everything is at a good level. We must proceed immediately.

“If we can’t move on, we’ll simply keep doing what we’re doing until the big opportunity comes around, which I’m sure Neil [Marsh], his manager, will get him.”
