Boxing News: Claressa Shields’ assertion that Savannah Marshall is misrepresenting her injuries ahead of their undisputed middleweight clash later this year has been debunked by Savannah Marshall.
Shields, the WBA, WBC, and IBF middleweight champion, has questioned the severity of WBO middleweight champion Marshall’s arm surgery, calling it “mind games” to purchase “more time.”
The bout between American star Shields and English fighter Marshall was originally scheduled for July, but it will now take place in early September.
Marshall explained to Sky Sports: “Claressa has been aware of my injury and has been informed of everything that has occurred.
“I’m not sure if it’s red-chested or if she simply opened her inbox because she was notified approximately a month ago.
“I haven’t a clue with that girl.
“My fitness is good, I’m getting there, slowly building myself back up, getting my strength back. I am taking it easy, trying not to rush.”
When asked whether the fight will take place in September, Marshall said: “One hundred per cent.
“Claressa has confirmed it via Twitter. What she says and what she does are two different things but it looks like it’s happening.
“I’m really looking forward to it. There is no other fight out there for me. Claressa has three belts, I’ve got one, so there is nowhere else for me to go.
“It’s the same for her. We both need this fight for our careers.”
Marshall and Shields are both undefeated at 12-0, with Marshall defeating Femke Hermans by knockout in April and Shields defeating Ema Kozin on points in February.
